PA Route 29 All-Electronic Interchange

The opening of the Route 29 All-Electronic Interchange marked the first four-directional, all-electronic interchange on the Pennsylvania Turnpike. The interchange allows E-ZPass customers to enter or exit the turnpike in either direction while traveling at typical highway speeds.

As the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission’s primary design consultant, STV and its subconsultants provided engineering, environmental services and construction support for the project, which represents the first step in the Turnpike commission’s planned conversion to a cashless toll collection system.

Before the new interchange, this 14-mile section was already one of the most heavily traveled four-lane sections on the east-west Turnpike mainline. Now, the interchange seamlessly welcomes all motorists, regardless of whether they are E-ZPass customers, to cross through this vital corridor.

The first four-directional, all-electronic interchange along the Pennsylvania Turnpike enhances vehicle safety and access.
