P.S. 95Q Addition

STV is providing architectural and engineering design services for a major expansion of P.S. 95Q, the Eastwood School, in Jamaica, Queens. The project includes a new 40,510‑square‑foot addition and renovations to the existing Pre‑K-5 facility to meet the New York City School Construction Authority’s (NYCSCA) latest educational standards. Designed to welcome 229 additional students, the expansion introduces modern learning environments, specialized classrooms and improved building infrastructure that enhances the school as a vital community asset.

What challenges is STV addressing?

The existing P.S. 95Q building required more capacity, modern learning spaces and updated building systems to serve a growing student population. The challenge included integrating new specialized educational spaces – such as arts and performance rooms – into a constrained urban site while ensuring that upgrades to the existing structure improved safety, accessibility and long-term performance. Aligning with NYCSCA’s Green Schools Guide added another layer of sustainability and resilience requirements.

What solutions is STV delivering?

STV’s design introduces a new entrance and lobby along with four levels of classrooms, including a dance studio, music room and art rooms, to support diverse teaching and learning needs. The project also includes a new kitchen and cafeteria capable of serving 882 students across three lunch periods. Renovations to the existing school upgrade electrical systems, replace fire alarms and improve program accessibility. The addition maximizes daylight, prioritizes safety and incorporates sustainable features such as an all‑electric building system and a green roof for stormwater management.

How will this project benefit the community?

The expanded facility will increase capacity, enrich student programming and enhance the overall learning experience for P.S. 95Q families. By integrating specialized arts and instructional spaces and supporting sustainability goals, the project will strengthen the school’s role as a community anchor. Improved circulation, upgraded infrastructure and safer, more resilient systems will ensure a welcoming and future-ready environment for students, educators and the surrounding neighborhood.
