Changing course demands compelled Queens College, one of the City University of New York’s largest senior colleges, to renovate its science building. Five existing physics and astronomy laboratories were converted into biology teaching laboratories and adjacent prep rooms were equipped with new casework and fume hoods.
STV provided architectural and engineering design, as well as construction management services, under a design-build contract. Approximately 5,100 square feet were renovated in total. The extensive laboratory renovations included redesign of laboratory gas and drainage systems. New laboratory student work stations are arranged as four “islands” with chemical-resistant lab tops and base cabinets. Mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection systems were upgraded to meet current codes.
