The Riverside County Transportation Commission has expanded its operational capabilities with a new 3,200‑square‑foot Security Operations Control Center at the Joseph Tavaglione Riverside-Downtown Station. The facility houses full‑time security staff who oversee Metrolink operations throughout Riverside County, strengthening monitoring, coordination and emergency readiness for one of Southern California’s busiest commuter rail territories. As part of an on‑call rail operations contract, STV provided full design services for the center, helping deliver a modern, secure and efficient operational hub.
What challenges did STV address?
The project required integrating advanced security infrastructure within a tightly constrained site at an active station. STV needed to design architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems that fit the available footprint while ensuring operational resilience and long‑term adaptability. Exterior improvements – including ADA‑compliant walkways, a redesigned parking area and a retaining wall – required careful coordination with existing station circulation paths and site utilities.
What solutions did STV deliver?
STV provided multidisciplinary design services for the facility’s interior and exterior elements. Inside, the team designed a security room with CCTV monitoring, a server room, training spaces and crew layover facilities. Outside, STV developed civil engineering solutions to accommodate site constraints and improve accessibility. The result is a fully functional operations center tailored to the agency’s security, technology and operational needs.
