Rolling Road Station Platform Improvements

The Virginia Railway Express’s (VRE) Rolling Road Station in Burke, VA, which is along the Manassas Line connecting Washington, D.C., to Bristow, VA, originally consisted of a 380-foot-long platform that could only accommodate five-car sets for board and detraining. As a result, passengers on VRE’s standard eight-car sets needed to move to different cars to detrain at the station, adding commuting time and inconvenience.

To improve service and accessibility, VRE initiated a 290-foot extension of the platform. STV, as part of a larger task order contract with the agency, performed construction management services for platform improvements at the station.

Improvements at Rolling Road Station now accommodate eight-car trains, making travel more efficient and seamless.

Construction of a longer platform improves the efficiency and accessibility of a vital commuter rail service.
