The New Jersey School District Authority (NJSDA) recently underwent a statewide initiative aimed at improving K-12 public school facilities. STV was contracted by NJSDA to perform construction management services for the South Street Elementary School in Newark, NJ. The newly built, three-story, 103,000-square-foot facility accommodates more than 650 students from pre-kindergarten through eighth grade and features a computer/technology lab, a rooftop outdoor science learning center, a world languages classroom, an art room, a media center, a multipurpose room, a cafeteria and a gymnasium, two science labs, six small group instruction rooms, instrumental and vocal music rooms, and 29 general classrooms. Additional site work included community accessible spaces, landscaping, parking, fencing and physical education and play areas.
STV scope encompassed crucial construction administration, estimating, and scheduling services that supported phased design and construction. The finished school, which encompasses nearly a city block, stands as a positive and safe learning environment that encourages students’ academic and personal development while serving an ever-growing student body with the critical resources they need.
