Southport Auto Terminal and Vehicle Processing Center

The Port of Philadelphia (PhilaPort)’s Auto Terminal and Vehicle Processing Center (VPC) stretches across 155 acres, capable of processing more than 200,000 vehicles from Korea and Mexico each year. As PhilaPort’s first new terminal in more than 45 years, the VPC’s new facility can service 200 cars per hour and process more than 1,000 cars daily. Vehicles are shipped to various dealerships throughout the East Coast.

As part of a multi-year task order contract, STV was contracted by the Port of Philadelphia (PhilaPort) to provide architectural and engineering design services for the VPC. STV’s designs consist of a state-of-the-art body shop, including two car washes with two double prep stations and two joined double paint booths.

The facility is protected against flooding, with the entire site raised by five feet—well above the 100-year floodplain. Additionally, the VPC contains a dedicated 1,000-square-foot training room, a 625-square-foot combination conference/training room, a 3,200-square-foot multi-purpose room that serves as an additional training area, and explosion-proof paint storage.

Following the VPC’s completion, STV’s infrastructure economics and grants advisory team helped PhilaPort secure a $20.3 million INFRA grant for additional improvements for other port facilities.
