SunRail Phase 2 Northern Expansion

The 12.2-mile SunRail Phase 2 Northern Expansion builds upon the success of Central Florida’s premier commuter rail system. It connects the DeLand Amtrak Station to the Debary Station in southern Volusia County on the existing Central Florida Rail Corridor (CFRC) providing a dependable and efficient commuting alternative for those traveling to downtown Orlando.

As part of the design-build team led by Herzog, STV served as the lead designer for the 12.2-mile commuter rail corridor, the final part of SunRail’s overall expansion. STV’s scope included all 12.2 miles of tracks (including four miles of double tracking), track relocation, the addition of a mainline track, four road crossings, one station and the total rehabilitation of the pedestrian tunnel at Lake Beresford Park. The team also performed communications and electrical engineering.

In addition to improving transit access in the region, these upgrades will allow freight lines to travel at 60 mph and Amtrak and SunRail service to travel at speeds as high as 79 mph.

New rail extension provides a safe and efficient transportation alternative for Central Florida residents who commute to downtown Orlando.
