Valley Region Elementary School #13

The Valley Region Elementary School #13 is a 60,111-square-foot building in Panorama City, CA, developed to relieve overcrowding at local elementary schools. The Los Angeles Unified School District tasked STV with providing schematic through final architectural and engineering design for the new facility that includes 38 classrooms, a kitchen and cafeteria, a library, administrative offices, and a multipurpose room.

The building’s sustainable design earned LEED Gold© certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. The L-shaped complex is situated to minimize western exposure, thus reducing energy costs. Roof overhangs provide shade and walkways are covered, minimizing heat island effects. Other sustainability measures include water reuse for landscaping, natural ventilation, the use of recycled materials, and high-rated air filters.
