Wilmington Global Innovation Center at The DuPont Experimental Station

The DuPont Experimental Station in Wilmington, DE, is one of the world’s first industrial research and development facilities. A historic site for scientific discovery and technological innovation, the station features more than 50 buildings and 2.77 million square feet of research space. To continue advancing scientific achievements, E. I. du Pont de Nemours and Company selected STV to provide architectural and engineering design services for their Wilmington Global Innovation Center (WGIC).

The adaptive reuse project converted a brick and concrete framework of a former library into a three-story, 60,000-square-foot innovation hub, complete with conference spaces, breakout rooms, display spaces, collaboration laboratories, open office areas, lounges and a fitness center. Emphasizing innovation and discovery at every corner, each space is meticulously designed to foster collective creativity and teamwork.

STV provided programming support, preliminary design, final design and post-design services. The project also included landscaping and outdoor amenities.

Today, the WGIC stands as the centerpiece of DuPont’s Wilmington campus – and provides the blueprint for innovation centers at DuPont campuses across the globe.

A design that facilitates research and innovation for global leader.
