The Worcester Recovery Center and Hospital is a 428,000‑square‑foot psychiatric treatment campus designed to promote rehabilitation and therapeutic care through a normalized, patient‑centered environment. To support the transition from the former Worcester State Hospital to this new facility, the Massachusetts Division of Capital Asset Management and Maintenance engaged STV to manage the complex relocation and installation of all furniture, fixtures and equipment (FF&E). This multi‑month effort ensured that the new hospital was fully prepared to serve its 320 adolescent and adult patients and 1,200 clinical and administrative staff members.
What challenges did STV address?
STV needed to coordinate the phased delivery and installation of 7,500 pieces of FF&E while navigating the operational and safety needs of a large behavioral‑health population. Ensuring continuity of care, maintaining patient safety and minimizing disruption to staff processes were central challenges. The logistics had to align with construction schedules, vendor timelines and the hospital’s highly specialized functional requirements.
What solutions did STV deliver?
As move manager, STV supervised inspection, staging and load‑in activities over a three‑month period. The team worked closely with hospital leadership, clinical teams, vendors and contractors to synchronize all phases of delivery. Once the facility was fully equipped, STV orchestrated the safe and orderly transition of patients and staff into the new building, ensuring the hospital could immediately begin serving the community.
How does this project benefit the region and community?
The new Worcester Recovery Center and Hospital enhances mental health care across Massachusetts by offering modern spaces designed to support recovery, safety and dignity. STV’s role in the relocation process helped launch a state‑of‑the‑art behavioral health facility that strengthens patient outcomes and improves working environments for dedicated healthcare professionals.
