Christopher Cerino, PE, F.SEI, DBIA, vice president and technical director of structural engineering at STV, has been appointed as the Structural Engineers Association of New York’s (SEAoNY) representative to the Board of Directors of the Applied Technology Council (ATC). This appointment further enhances his expanding portfolio of national leadership roles within the structural engineering profession.
“ATC has long played a critical role in advancing applied multi-hazard research and translating these findings into meaningful improvements in codes and standards,” Cerino said. “I look forward to contributing to that mission and collaborating with fellow leaders to help strengthen the built environment nationwide.”
ATC is a nationally recognized nonprofit dedicated to advancing engineering solutions for hazard mitigation and resilient infrastructure. Through applied research, technical guidance and post-disaster investigations, ATC helps shape building codes, standards and best practices that influence the safety and performance of structures across the United States. Cerino’s appointment highlights his extensive expertise in resilient design and his longstanding dedication to elevating the profession’s standard of practice.
“Chris is widely respected both within STV and throughout New York’s engineering community. When SEAoNY was asked to appoint a new representative to the Applied Technology Council Board, his name immediately rose to the top,” said Matthew Sangen, PE, SE, structural engineer at STV and board secretary of SEAoNY. “His commitment to advancing codes and standards, along with his steadfast advocacy for the structural engineering profession, make him exceptionally well-suited for this role.”
This latest honor builds on a series of recent national recognitions. Cerino has held several leadership roles with the National Council of Structural Engineers Associations (NCSEA), most recently serving as President in 2024-2025, following his terms as Director, Treasurer and Vice President. He continues to serve on the NCSEA Board as Past President. Additionally, Cerino is a Past President of SEAoNY, a regional member organization of NCSEA. In 2021, he was named Engineer of the Year by the American Council of Engineering Companies of New York.
Cerino also serves on the Board of Directors of the Salvadori Center and is Vice Chair of the ASCE 7 Flood Load and a member of the ASCE 24 Committees under the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). Through ASCE, he directly contributes to developing and refining national standards for structural loads, flood-resistant design and resilient construction practices, underscoring his continued commitment to advancing safer, more resilient communities.
