Sierra College and Cypress, an STV Company, Celebrate the Opening of New Student Residence Hall

Cypress Served as Program Manager/Construction Manager for the Project

SACRAMENTO, CA – STV and Cypress Construction Management, an STV Company, joined Sierra College to celebrate the opening of the new 123,000-square-foot student housing facility on its Rocklin campus.

Cypress, which was recently acquired by STV, provided program management and construction management (PM/CM) services for the progressive design-build project, guiding the college through planning, design-build team selection and contract negotiations. Built in the center of an active campus, the project required careful safety planning and traffic management by the Cypress team including onsite oversight, coordination and quality management during construction to protect students and faculty.

“This new residence hall builds on years of collaboration across multiple projects with Sierra College, each designed to strengthen a sense of community at the heart of campus and provide more affordable housing options to students,” said Doug Evans, CCM, DBIA, co-founder at Cypress. “We know many students face significant financial pressures so we are proud to create spaces that help alleviate those pressures so they can focus on learning.”

The $107 million residence hall delivers 358 new affordable beds across 68 residential units and marks a major milestone in the College’s $675 million Capital Improvement Program, which includes the New Instructional Building for fine arts, the Gymnasium Renovation and Expansion and the multi-year Campus Infrastructure Replacement Project, all led by the Cypress team. The new residence hall provides low-cost housing, with the Sierra College Foundation working to endow beds for low-income and veteran students.

STV is a trusted partner to higher education clients nationwide, offering a full suite of services on such projects as the Mui Ho Fine Arts Library Renovation at Cornell University, the Laney College Facilities Master Plan in Oakland, the City College of San Francisco Multi-Use Building, the University of Massachusetts Lowell Perry Hall Renovation and the Kutztown University Sharadin Arts Building.

For decades, STV’s team of experts has delivered engineering, design, planning, program management and construction management and owner’s project management services for clients across California. The firm’s multidisciplinary capabilities span transportation, education, healthcare, justice and civic facilities, including projects such as the BART Canopy and Escalator Enhancements, San Diego Metropolitan Transit System, San Mateo County Express Lanes Corridor, LA Metro Purple Line Extension Section 2 and Section 3, Delta Sky Way Program at LAX and the Orange County Central Justice Center.
