STV recently joined representatives from the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) to celebrate the groundbreaking of a new commercial truck parking facility in Seminole County – part of a broader effort to expand truck parking capacity along the I-4 corridor.
The program enhances parking resources, freight movement and roadway safety across Central Florida. STV is serving as the prime construction engineering and inspection (CEI) consultant for the Seminole County site, which will provide 132 new truck parking spaces in Sanford, Florida. As one of five planned locations across Orange, Osceola, Seminole and Volusia counties, the facility contributes to a coordinated corridor-wide effort that will add 917 truck parking spaces once complete.
“This effort represents the type of infrastructure investment that delivers benefits well beyond the project limits,” said Anu Shah, PE, vice president. “Expanding truck parking along the I‑4 corridor helps drivers safely meet federal hours-of-service requirements, reduces congestion on surrounding roadways and supports more reliable freight movement across Central Florida.”
Key speakers at the event included Sean McMaster, administrator of the FHWA; Derek Barrs, administrator of the FMCSA; and Jared W. Perdue, secretary of FDOT.
Trucks move approximately 95 percent of goods produced in Florida, and the I-4 corridor is a critical link between I-75 and I-95. By expanding available parking along one of the state’s highest-demand corridors, the initiative is expected to improve freight reliability, enhance driver safety and reduce inefficiencies that affect regional goods movement.
In addition to parking spaces, the new facilities will include driver amenities such as restrooms, security features and truck parking availability technology that provides real-time information on parking capacity. These improvements are designed to help reduce fatigue associated with searching for parking and contribute to safer conditions for surrounding communities and road users.
STV will provide construction oversight and quality assurance to support the safe, compliant and efficient delivery of the Seminole County facility. Services include coordination across project stakeholders and proactive management of construction performance.
The groundbreaking signals the start of construction on infrastructure designed to improve safety, strengthen corridor performance and deliver lasting benefits for Florida’s freight network and the communities it serves.
