The WTS Central Pennsylvania (Central PA) Chapter has named STV its Employer of the Year, recognizing the firm’s sustained commitment to advancing women in transportation and supporting professional growth across the Commonwealth. The award was presented during the chapter’s annual gala held in March.
The Employer of the Year Award honors organizations that demonstrate leadership in hiring and advancement, professional development, mentorship and active engagement with the transportation community. STV was recognized for pairing long‑standing firmwide initiatives with meaningful, local involvement that creates opportunities for women at every career stage.

“Being recognized by WTS Central PA is especially meaningful because of the strong, hands on involvement our teams have with the chapter and the communities we serve,” said Barbara Hoehne, engineering director at STV. “This award reflects the work we’re doing every day to open doors, support growth at every stage and ensure women have real opportunities to lead and shape the future of transportation – at STV and across the industry.”
In Pennsylvania, STV’s commitment is reinforced through active participation in WTS programs, leadership roles within the Central PA Chapter and support for education and workforce development initiatives. STV is a longtime Platinum Corporate Sponsor of WTS Central PA, with employees serving in leadership, advisory and planning roles for programs, scholarships and the annual gala. The firm also supports early STEM engagement and workforce development through initiatives such as WTS Central PA STEAM Day and participation in regional education programs.

Firmwide, STV continues to invest in mentorship, leadership development and continuing education through structured career development programs, active employee resource communities and support for professional certification support.
STV’s Pennsylvania transportation portfolio provides meaningful opportunities for women to lead at every level. Recent examples include the East Market Street/Harrison Street Intersection Signal Upgrade project, presented as a lunch and learn during Engineers Week by Barbara Hoehne with Kyle Tarnoviski, PE, PTOE, RSP1, senior traffic engineer at STV, and Ashlee Steele, EIT, project manager at PennDOT, as well as the Central Susquehanna Valley Transportation Project, the WTS Central PA 2024 Innovative Transportation Solutions award winner. Together, these projects highlight the leadership and innovation that define STV’s award‑winning transportation work across Pennsylvania.
