Austin Light Rail Phase 1 will connect some of the city’s most vibrant and highly visited destinations – including the University of Texas at Austin, Downtown, the Hike‑and‑Bike Trail, East Riverside and South Congress – through an all‑electric, high‑capacity transit system. When complete, the nearly 10‑mile starter line will feature 15 stations, offering trains every 5-10 minutes and creating a seamless, multimodal network that links with buses, commuter rail, bike lanes and major pedestrian corridors. The project is a central component of Project Connect, a long‑term partnership between Austin Transit Partnership (ATP), the City of Austin and CapMetro to transform mobility across the region.
What challenges is STV addressing?
Austin is one of the fastest-growing cities in the nation, facing increasing roadway congestion and limited transit options in its busiest corridors. The region needs an integrated, reliable and equitable transit solution that enhances connectivity, provides alternatives to single‑occupancy vehicles, and supports sustainable growth. The project’s complexity requires coordinated planning and delivery across multiple agencies, modes, and contractors.
What solutions is STV delivering?
As part of LINC Austin – a multidisciplinary partnership with AECOM, Parsons, Turner & Townsend, Ardmore Roderick and CAS Consultant – STV is serving as a subconsultant to AECOM to help ATP deliver this transformative system. STV is providing program management, construction management, systems integration and project controls support to ensure a safe, efficient and expandable light rail system. These services help guide design development, streamline delivery and integrate complex multimodal and technical systems essential for future operations.
How will this project benefit the region?
Austin Light Rail Phase 1 will expand mobility choices, reduce congestion and strengthen connections between major employment, educational, cultural and recreational destinations. By offering a fast, frequent, zero‑emission alternative to driving, the system will improve travel reliability, support sustainable growth and enhance access for residents, students, workers and visitors across Austin.
