Bronx Family and Criminal Courthouse

The challenging and dated layout of the Bronx Family and Criminal Courthouse created crowded corridors, congested screening areas and excessive delays for staff and visitors alike. To improve the flow of people through the courthouse while enhancing its operational efficiency, the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York (DASNY) initiated a multi-phase interior renovation.

As construction manager, STV provided overall project coordination, scheduling and financial management for this project. Improvements ran the gamut, from an enhanced New York Police Department arrest-to-arraignment area plus renovations of the Family and Criminal Court entrances, courtrooms and office interiors. The project’s scope also included the removal of asbestos contamination from the facility.

Construction of the interior renovations was phased and required the relocation and reconfiguration of swing space to execute. In working closely with DASNY and facility stakeholders, STV ensured all functions of the fully occupied building remained in operation during the renovation.

Long-awaited renovations transform a dated courthouse into a spacious, streamlined and efficient building.
