Clark-LaSalle/Division Station Red Line Rehabilitation

Originally opening in 1943, the renovation of the Chicago Transit Authority’s Clark/Division on Red Line Station was a key component of a larger $7.3 billion infrastructure renewal program in Chicago. The station was renovated to allow for better pedestrian flow, while also making Clark/Division more accessible and ADA-compliant.

On behalf of the Chicago Department of Transportation, STV provided construction management services for the $43 million rehabilitation. This four-phase project entailed construction of a new 8,800-square-foot station mezzanine area at the intersection of LaSalle and Division streets, the rehabilitation of the existing Clark station mezzanine, and the rehabilitation of the 440-foot subway platform.

Additionally, STV oversaw the relocation of major utilities; construction of deep retention systems; upgrades to elevators and escalators; and upgraded lighting, security and communication systems throughout the project. The firm staged the work to prevent interruptions while maintaining rail commuter services and city traffic.

A more accessible transit station that was optimized for better pedestrian flow.
