The Cowan Road Multi-Use Trail project aims to expand Acworth’s growing multimodal path network by constructing a safe, accessible trail linking neighborhoods, parks and the city center. The trail aspires to improve pedestrian and non-motorized mobility, support recreational access and connect residents of the Spring Meadow neighborhood to existing trails and community amenities.
What challenges does STV address?
Designing a trail in an existing suburban corridor required careful hydrological and floodplain analysis, accurate surveying and coordination with local roadway and land-use constraints. The trail needed to integrate smoothly with existing roadways, manage stormwater runoff and comply with community engineering and environmental standards – all while preserving connectivity and minimizing disruption during construction.
What solutions is STV delivering?
STV provided comprehensive design services, including surveying, civil engineering, hydrology and floodplain analysis, for the first phase of the trail. The initial segment comprises a half-mile, 10-foot-wide paved path along Cowan Road, from the Acworth Trail entrance at Spring Street to Spring Meadow Drive. The design allows for future expansion, with a second half-mile phase already planned and under design by STV.

The new trail enhances walkability and non-motorized mobility for families, reduces dependence on cars for short trips and strengthens community connectivity.
