The Moodna and Woodbury Viaducts are two of the most iconic structures in New York’s rail network, carrying freight and commuter trains for more than a century across the forested valleys of Orange County. What challenges did STV address?
The aging steel trestles required detailed inspection, assessment and load‑rating analysis to determine the most urgent repairs. The Moodna Viaduct, a 3,200‑foot‑long trestle rising 193 feet above the valley floor, is the highest and longest railroad trestle east of the Mississippi River. Working on structures of this scale required specialized field access, safety planning and coordination with active freight and commuter rail operations. STV needed to identify necessary repairs while minimizing service disruptions.
