The Onondaga County Justice Center is a 300,000-square-foot detention facility in Syracuse, NY, that was designed by STV to resolve overcrowding at an adjacent public safety building. The reimagined facility offers a more efficient inmate-to-staff ratio while maintaining a low operating cost per inmate.
STV’s design team collaborated closely with the Sheriff’s Office and numerous agencies to develop the facility’s design. The innovative architectural design is coupled with alternative management strategies, including direct supervision. The building’s exterior features architecturally harmonious elements that reflect the surrounding neighborhood in downtown Syracuse. The facility is also adaptable, allowing for future expansion without major disruption to the inmates and staff.
