Traffic along Chestnut Street (U.S. 21) in Orangeburg has risen sharply over the past few decades, creating a significant safety issue for the more than 1,000 students who live in two housing complexes across a busy five-lane road that runs along the South Carolina State University (SC State) campus.
STV served in an evolving role providing design and project management services for the construction of a 93-foot prefabricated bridge that also serves as a gateway to the campus. The firm designed the twin brick towers at each end of the bridge that are topped by signature blue canopies and the university’s circular garnet red logos.
Working with the bridge manufacturer and the project team, STV met the university’s goal of finishing the $4.2 million project in time for the upcoming academic year.
