Richmond Intermodal Center

First constructed in the 1960s and located adjacent to a bus rapid transit station, the Richmond Intermodal Station stands as a prominent gateway to the City of Richmond, CA. To better showcase the station and provide a more commuter-friendly experience, STV developed a series of phased solutions on behalf of the West Contra Costa Transportation Advisory Committee. Together, these phases aimed to improve access and incorporate safety with cost-effective, long-term, operational advances.

Preliminary phases included the creation of a canopy shelter and wind-screened waiting area to protect commuters against inclement weather for the entire transit village. The firm’s long-term architectural goals included harnessing improved economic vitality in the area to facilitate the creation of a police substation. As a whole, the station improvements mark a revitalization and investment in Richmond’s downtown to encourage safe and convenient railroad travel.
