SEPTA Silverliner V Railcar Procurement

To improve the commuter experience while meeting increasing service demands, the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) initiated the purchase of 120 electric multi-unit Silverliner V rail cars. These vehicles replaced portions of SEPTA’s fleet dating back more than 40 years while also marking the authority’s first new regional rail car design in more than 30 years.

STV provided administrative, engineering, quality assurance and procurement support services for this program. The team’s role included program management services, such as preparing reports, meeting notices, warranties and car history books. The firm also clarified any deviations from the technical specifications, assisted with work-order resolution, provided claims management and avoidance and reviewed change orders.

The cars feature larger windows, wider aisles, an enhanced seating arrangement and energy-efficient climate control systems. The digital panels display trip details inside the vehicle and outside, while interior flat-panel screens provide the latest travel updates.
