The collaborative delivery of a key segment of North Carolina’s Fayetteville Outer Loop has been recognized with a top transportation honor from the Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA) Southeast Region. The I-295 project received the organization’s highest award in the “Projects Exceeding $100 Million” category at the Southeast region’s annual summit.

STV served as lead designer for the approximately six-mile segment, partnering with Balfour Beatty/Branch Civil in a joint venture with the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT). A key part of a decades-long effort to complete a full interstate loop around Fayetteville, the segment connects Camden Road in Cumberland County to I-95 in Robeson County, strengthening regional mobility and improving access to one of North Carolina’s busiest freight corridors.

STV’s role on the project included roadway and structural design, environmental permitting support, geotechnical coordination, right-of-way acquisition and intelligent transportation systems design – requiring close coordination across disciplines and continuous collaboration with NCDOT and construction partners.

“This recognition reflects what’s possible when strong partnerships unite with a shared commitment to innovation and execution,” said Terry Snow, PE, senior vice president and Atlantic district manager for STV’s transportation team in the south. “We worked closely with NCDOT and our construction partners to deliver solutions that met the project’s technical requirements while prioritizing safety and maintaining mobility for the traveling public throughout delivery.”

With the Fayetteville Outer Loop now complete, the corridor has transformed how people and goods move through southeastern North Carolina, supporting economic growth, improving reliability and creating new opportunities for the region.
