STV partnered with the New York City Department of Design & Construction to deliver major infrastructure upgrades for the flood-prone Roma and Hett Avenues area of Staten Island’s New Dorp Beach. The project replaced aging sewers, reconstructed streets and enhanced drainage capacity to protect homes and residents from chronic flooding.
What challenges did STV overcome?
Working within narrow neighborhood rights-of-way, STV balanced ADA and drainage improvements with limited space and existing utilities. In areas where streets were raised by up to 18 inches to facilitate proper gravity flow, the team designed grading and seepage solutions to prevent runoff from flowing toward adjacent properties.
What solutions did STV deliver?
STV designed new storm and sanitary systems, water mains, curbs and sidewalks, and engineered an innovative pile-supported “pipe bridge” to carry sewers over existing utilities – minimizing rework and delays while strengthening long-term flood protection.
