The collaborative delivery of a key segment of North Carolina’s Fayetteville Outer Loop has received national recognition from the Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA). Following its top transportation honor from the DBIA Southeast Region earlier this year, the I-295 Fayetteville Outer Loop project has now earned a National Award of Merit in the Transportation category at DBIA’s annual national awards program.

STV served as lead designer for the approximately six-mile segment, partnering with the Balfour Beatty/Branch Civil joint venture and the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT). The project completed a critical connection between Camden Road in Cumberland County and I-95 in Robeson County, advancing a decades-long effort to establish a full interstate loop around Fayetteville and improve mobility throughout southeastern North Carolina.

The DBIA award recognizes the team’s successful delivery of a complex design-build project that required close coordination among designers, contractors and NCDOT across nearly eight years of planning, design and construction. STV’s work included roadway and structural design, environmental permitting support, geotechnical coordination, right-of-way acquisition and intelligent transportation systems design.

Now fully complete, the Fayetteville Outer Loop provides a continuous, high-capacity route around the city, improving access to I-95, enhancing reliability for motorists and freight movement, and supporting long-term economic development throughout the region.
